THIS JANUARY
What Have You Got to Lose ?
How many times have you made the same old resolution in January.”I’ll lose weight, before my next holiday”; “I’ll cut back on the wine”. Almost two weeks in; so how’s it going? The reality is that, come this time next year, and with the best intentions in the world, you will be saying the same thing all over again. So how can you break this viscous cycle?
Successful weight management comes down to more than just worrying about what you eat. It’s all about mindset, motivation and attitude. Most of us know what to do, but how many have the tools to carry it through and make healthy eating an easy part of our lifestyle? Throughout the year I’m sure you enjoy salon beauty treatments, meals out and other treats; but how about an investment in your long term health offering benefits which will stay with you forever?
For this reason I have launched Brighton and Hove Weight Management with Marco Anholts from OpenMindz. We will be combining my knowledge of nutrition with his expertise in motivational coaching and hypnotherapy to offer our clients the support of two experts working together. We offer a sensible and realistic programme which means you can wake up on 1 January 2014, still having enjoyed a few Christmas treats, but with far more interesting goals to set yourself for the year.
It’s not too late; our Our New Year course now starts on Tuesday 29 January at Brighton Consulting Rooms, Preston Park and runs for 6 consecutive weeks. Click here for more information or contact me for a no-obligation chat. If you have friends or colleagues who may benefit, please pass the information on.
We know pennies are tight in January, also that it’s so much better with two! So join with a friend and we are offering a 15% discount for each of you.
Does Detoxing Really Work?
The term ‘detoxing’ can conjure up images of strict and sometimes fad diets, involving restricted intake of food and drink. Whilst the objective may be to achieve vitality, cleansing and health benefits, the process can be extreme and harmful and leave you feeling worse than before.
Nowadays we live in a highly toxic world, exposed to pesticides, household chemicals in make up and cleaning products, and air pollution. We also ingest a large number of toxins though our food and water, and through alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and food additives.
In reality, our body is extremely efficient at detoxifying itself using the liver to make these toxins safe. When working properly, it processes them, neutralises them and excretes the end product through the urine, skin and lungs.
However, the liver needs nutrients to function, so to detox in a healthy way you need to feed your liver with the fuel it needs to do its job. If you follow an extreme programme which denies your liver these nutrients,or if you have an underlying medical condition, it can actually make you more toxic and do more harm than good, leaving you feeling very unwell.
My best advice would be to follow a sensible plan which has been put together by someone qualified; and please don’t undertake any detox without checking with your GP that it is safe to do so.
Fell free to call or email if you need any guidance with this!
January Health Tips
Don’t do anything extreme; a lengthy fast or radical dietary restriction can do more harm than good.
Foods To Try This Month – Fish
Fish is a great source of lean protein, and a tasty, nutritious food to kick off the New Year after all that beef and turkey. Not only is it rich in Vitamin D (which most of us lack during the winter), but it also low in fat and packed with essential minerals and particularly tasty when cooked with herbs. Turbot, mullet, scallops and mackerel are all in season at the moment, so find a local fishmonger to source locally caught fish, and look back at my blog from last year here to find out why it is so good for you, and for ideas showing you how to include fish each day.
Wishing you a very Happy and Healthy New Year
